…so little time for blogging
The past two days have been packed! Yesterday, I returned to do another adventure dive with Ed Robinson’s crew, this time a two-tank dive armed with a camera that didn’t flood (pictures to follow). The first dive was back at the “shark condos” around Molokini crater. While I did see a shark, I didn’t get a picture of it. I did manage to get a picture of this giant lobster though:
The “shark condos” consist of a ridge that runs down deep from Molokini crater. It has ledges for white tip sharks to rest on and creates currents the sharks leverage for hunting fish. We hung out there for a little bit hoping to see some sharks out and about but for the most part, we watched fish as they’d dart in and out of coral.
We also returned to the backside of Molokini crater but visited a different section of it. No manta rays this time however the sheer walls are always fun to dive.
I certainly hope I get the chance to return to Maui and Molokini for diving; I’m done for this trip but it was a lot of fun and I’d gladly go again!
After diving, I joined back up with my group and we headed out to the West Maui Mountains for a short hike. Right as we pulled up, it began to rain; the first we’ve had this trip. As rain goes in Hawaii, it was warm and didn’t last very long. We enjoyed most of our walk under the shade of the clouds which blanketed the mountain tops around us.
We had a quiet evening that night and I turned in early so I could get up early the next morning for surfing lessons. After a recommendation from one of the divemasters on the dive boat, I decided to give surfing a try and booked a lesson with Maui Wave Riders in Kihei. I enjoyed the experience and hope to go surfing again sometime soon. It’ll be a while before I’m catching 40 foot waves but I had plenty of fun at the beginner beach today.
After graduating from surf school, I rejoined the rest of my friends for a tour of Maui Brewing Company, the largest craft brewing company in the whole state of Hawaii. They have tasty food and beer and give a great tour of their brewery if you’re ever on Maui.
After our tour there, we returned to Kihei and enjoyed a sunset swim before retiring to our condo for an evening of playing the new Mario Party.
