Upcountry Tour

2018-10-08

Getting close to the end of my time on Maui! It’ll be a bitter-sweet departure in a couple days but I’m making the most of my time left here. Yesterday we hit the road and traveled up Haleakala to the upcountry. First stop was at Maui Wine where we did a wine tasting and had lunch.

They had tasty pineapple wines as well as traditional grape wines and the small bbq restaurant there served up some tasty burgers and soup. The grounds had some interesting features including the “Old Jail” which looked like a nice place to stay (or at least hold a small private event) and some lush gardens complete with old Hawaiian statues.

After our visit to the winery we headed back down the hill to Ali’i Kula Lavender farm. They had just harvested most of the lavender so there wasn’t much lavender to see however the farm featured beautiful tropical gardens with stunning vistas of central Maui and the West Maui Mountains.

As we toured the lavender farm, clouds drifted down the mountain and eventually it began to rain. We returned to Kihei where the sun was still shining and eventually made our way to Three’s Bar & Grill for a very tasty dinner. Highly recommend Three’s for anyone traveling on Maui!

Tonight we’re off to Lahaina for a luau then tomorrow will be my last full day on Maui. How the time here has flown right on by!
